Highly acclaimed when first published in France 2006 Jonathan Littell’s monumental novel was more controversially discussed when later published in Germany. In an historic setting the reader follows the fictional protagonist Max Aue—a high-rank SS officer—through his cruel adventures during the holocaust. Händl Klaus prepared the libretto from the German translation for Hèctor Parra’s full-length opera staged by Calixto Bieito. Peter Rundel is conducting. The premiere is on the 24th of April at Opera Vlaanderen in Antwerp.
Hèctor talks about the project in a short video.
