mono:di

We developed mono:di together with Corpus monodicum for inputting transcriptions of neumes. Based on the encoding standard by the Music Encoding Initiative (MEI) it provides an all-encompassing and easy to use tool for the work of the modern musicologist.

The seven years of our co-operation with the University of Würzburg yielded significant results: a foundation of technical knowledge and digital expertise was established and musicologists were enabled to address the latest requirements in the digital humanities and artificial intelligence research. Together with the IT and AI departments of the university, the project will continue the efforts in research and development. Our working relationship continues in the form of consultancy and services concerning both digital and printing needs. Equally, we continue to be actively engaged in the development of the MEI standard.

Print and digital edition

Mono:di data is equally suitable for both print and digital presentation. With regard to correction processes, this means a significant improvement because as soon as corrections are made in mono:di, they are made available for both branches of publication. Our approach to let print and forthcoming digital editions stem from the same data source have received acknowledgement over and above this project. The typesetting quality we achieved for printed editions sets new standards, exceeding the already high standards of academic publications – as impressively attested in the first printed volume.
